Is a Low-Protein Diet Healthy? Here’s What Dietitians Think

jhon pablo

While the only traveling I’ve done during quarantine is from my bedroom to the couch, Netflix’s Down To Earth With Zac Efron is at least providing a little window into life in more exciting, distant locales. (And I mean, Zac Efron is the tour guide, so there’s that.)

In episode four, Efron travels down to Sardinia, Italy, one of the world’s five Blue Zones. In these regions, people regularly live to be over 100 and in good health; Sardinia itself houses 10 times more centenarians per capita than the U.S. So Efron spent his trip gaining some insight into what exactly makes Sardinians so darn healthy.

The most shocking fact he learned was that, compared to how we eat here in the States, Sardinians have a low-protein diet, tending to cap their intake at 50 grams a day. To compare, the average American is supposed to eat 75 grams of

Hilary Duff’s fitness plan reveals why counting macros works

Stephanie Nuzzo was inspired when actress Hilary Duff shared her iso fitness regimen – and when she tried it herself, the flexibility and structured routine left her feeling better than ever.

I don’t know about you guys, but 2020 has thrown a wrench into my fitness plans. Back in February, I was feeling great. I was training regularly; building strength—all that jazz.

Then COVID happened, and my gym days stopped. While I recognise that a dip in fitness is nothing compared to the tragic circumstances people are living through right now, it was a part of my life that changed. And finding an alternative regime that gives me the same mental and physical satisfaction has been tricky.

For context, I was living in New York when corona kicked off. As a result, I was stuck in my apartment for four months. Space was limited, and there was nary a dumbbell

Head Of Rutgers Dental School: It’s Safe To See The Dentist Again

jhon pablo

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — While New Jersey residents have cautiously started going to hair salons, outdoor restaurants and doctor’s appointments again, many are still reluctant to see one person in particular: The dentist.

The American Dental Association said they expect dental revenues to be down by as much as 40 percent by the end of 2020. And as recently as two weeks ago, the American Dental Association said they “respectfully yet strongly disagree” with advice from the World Health Organization, telling people to avoid routine dental care due to coronavirus risk.

Cecile Feldman, the dean of the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, said she thinks seeing a dentist is actually low risk according to current knowledge of the virus.

She also clarified that the World Health Organization recommends continuing routine care except in hot spots where there is “intense uncontrolled community transmission” — which isn’t the case in

This One Diet Can Improve Your Heart Health, New Study Says

jhon pablo

The term plant-based is trending all over the place recently. This type of diet focuses on whole foods instead of processed foods and those that contain animal products. It’s pretty simple and straight forward — eating a plant-based diet is eating lots of fruits and vegetables. And this seems pretty healthy, right?

The answer is a little bit more complicated than you might think. According to a recent study published on August 27 by the European Society of Cardiology, a healthy plant-based diet can be good for your heart. It can also lead to normal blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood sugar numbers. However, an unhealthy plant-based diet full of juices, refined grains, chips, and sweets like chocolate (all foods that are technically made of plants), can hurt heart health. This is especially true for more women than men.

Laura Dern’s Anti-Aging Skincare Routine

jhon pablo

Laura Dern has been acting since the ripe age of 15, when she landed her first acting gig in Mask. Since then, she’s gone on to star in a number of hits, including Jurassic Park, Wild, and Big Little Lies. But refreshingly, and almost shockingly, Laura has somehow managed to stay humble—even after growing up with two successful actor parents (Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern, ICYMI).

She told Into The Gloss that they showed her that being an actor was a “practical craft” and that “you worked hard and you went to work like other people went to work.” Another practical piece of advice she learned from her mom: “when we buy something, we are investing in that company and we should want it to succeed and live up to our values,” she told Shape.

Laura practices this rule in all aspects of her life,

Most recently, Phil took matters into his own hands on Monday when he handed a fellow builder a pair of pliers to tackle his aching molar.

In the footage, Phil, from Castleford,

No one: Them: Let’s flatten the curve of your stomach!

Some states were barely one week deep into lockdown when “quarantine 15” jokes arrived on the socials. Maybe the meme fairies were just trying to make a lighthearted joke while the world burned, but the punch line threw shade we really didn’t need. The possibility that we could look different after an uncontrollable virus took over the world was hilarious, apparently. El oh el, amirite?

And it should surprise exactly no one that the weight-loss industry immediately jumped on quarantine as a marketing tool. A random sampling of seven diet companies’ Instagram posts between March 12 and July 14 found that at least 20 percent—and up to 80 percent—

of the brands’ content used threats of stay-at-home weight gain to sell us their products.

If you’re thinking, Who cares?! Businesses want to make money

The First Known Case Of A Skin-Less Shark

jhon pablo

As if 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, what if we told you that a shark with no skin-related structured (so no epidermis, stratum laxum, dermal denticles, or teeth) was discovered?

Seems like something straight out of a science fiction movie. Except, it’s not.

Galeus melastomus, also known as the blackmouth catshark, is a small elasmobranch distributed in the eastern Atlantic from Norway to Senegal on the outer continental shelves and upper slopes. Here, they mainly feed on invertebrates, cephalopods, small pelagic bony fish, and other small elasmobranchs. This shark is caught in fisheries within their range and have very low or no commercial value. Back in July 2019, one individual stood out and became a scientific megastar. The specimen was caught by trawl in central‐western Mediterranean waters in
