Upon welcoming an inaugural class of 64 students in August 2013, the University of New England College of Dental Medicine became the first dental college in Northern New England. Shortly thereafter, the College dedicated its gleaming new Oral Health Center on UNE’s Portland Campus. 

In filling a glaring educational need for Maine and New England, the College of Dental Medicine is proud to serve students from Maine and its surrounding states, but also recognizes the national impact its program can have. Indeed, the inaugural class reflected a balance of students from New England and also from points well beyond. Of the initial 64 students, 24 hailed from Maine, representing more than 20 different towns. The rest found their way to UNE from 16 different U.S. states and Canada.

About Naturopathic Medicine | Bastyr University

Naturopathic doctors are licensed or registered as health care providers in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Legal provisions allow the practice of naturopathic medicine in several other states. Naturopathic doctors are also recognized in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan.

Efforts to gain licensure elsewhere are currently under way. Forty-two states and territories in the United States have professional associations for naturopathic medicine. Canada has 11 provincial and territorial professional associations.

    UHealth school and mobile clinic nurses at the South Dade Government Center COVID-19 testing site.

    A UHealth Pediatric Mobile Clinic with advanced telehealth features is now offering COVID-19 testing for adults at the South Dade Government Center in Cutler Bay. Individuals with coronavirus symptoms, such as high fever and breathing difficulties, can make an appointment for testing by calling 311 or 305-499-8767.

    “We are shifting our medical resources to meet the community’s need, and will be at this site as long as necessary,” said Lisa Gwynn, D.O., M.B.A., associate professor of clinical pediatrics and public health sciences, and director of the Pediatric Mobile Clinic and the Dr. John T.
