is it facing a food crisis?

A national campaign to curb mounting food waste in China is feeding speculation that the supply outlook is worse than the government admits and fuelling warnings food could become another front in the worsening US-China rivalry.

Officials have repeatedly said ‘all-is-well’ and promise a bumper 2020 grain crop there are growing concerns about a food shortfall

President Xi Jinping started the “Operation Empty Plate” drive in mid-August to address what he called “shocking and distressing” waste, prompting a nationwide push to comply reminiscent of the Mao era.

The aggressive campaign has spooked many on social media, who are asking whether it indicates deeper problems.

China is among the world’s biggest food producers and consumers, with nearly 1.4 billion mouths to feed.

But heavy flooding this year in the Yangtze River basin — the source of most of China’s rice — has destroyed huge swathes of farmland, while coronavirus

VEGAN food bank opens up to help those who prefer a plant-based diet

A vegan-only food bank has opened to help out plant-based eaters going without food.

The food bank – one of the first of its kind in the UK – is based in Bath, Somerset, and has even received National Lottery funding to assist it.

It will only accept donations such as lentils, couscous and dairy-free milk but will provide care packages to non-vegans who are in trouble.

The charitable enterprise was set up by vegan Helen Wright, to help people struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

She had heard about vegans struggling to get plant-based products from normal food banks.

It currently helps 16 families a week, giving out food parcels with beans, lentils, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy-free milk, and

‘The Keto Diet Helped Me Overcome Fast Food Addiction’

My name is Julia Terranova (@juliagetslean), and I am 25 years old. I live in Newberg, Oregon, and I am a receptionist. After reaching a point of eating too much fast food and getting diagnosed with multiple health ailments, I committed to keto and calorie tracking and took back my health.

Before discovering the keto diet, I struggled with binge eating, especially when it came to fast food. My days revolved around trips to the drive-thru and ordering large portions. I was stopping at McDonald’s and Taco Bell two times a day, at the minimum. I hid this habit from everyone, and the weight slowly packed on.

I blamed my weight gain on the fact that I had two babies 14 months apart. I would eat meals at home with my family, then find ways to have a reason to get fast food or coffee drinks at a local coffee

Rabbit Food | House Rabbit Society

What are the basics of a good house rabbit diet?

A rabbit’s diet should be made up of good quality pellets, fresh hay (timothy, other grass hays, or oat hay), water and fresh vegetables. Anything beyond that is a “treat” and should be given in limited quantities.

What makes a good pellet?

Pellets should be fresh, and should be relatively high in fiber (18% minimum fiber). Do not purchase more than 6 weeks worth of feed at a time, as it will become spoiled. Pellets should make up less of a rabbit’s diet as he or she grows older, and hay should be available 24 hours a day. Alfalfa pellets are fine for younger rabbits but timothy pellets are preferred for older rabbits.

What kinds of veggies should I feed my rabbit?

When shopping for vegetables, look for a selection of different veggies–look for both dark leafy veggies. Stay away

Science Compared Every Diet, and the Winner Is Real Food

The voices that carry the farthest over the sea of diet recommendations are those of iconoclasts—those who promise the most for the least, and do so with certainty. Amid the clamor, Dr. David Katz is emerging as an iconoclast on the side of reason. At least, that’s how he describes himself. From his throne at Yale University’s Prevention Research Center, where he is a practicing physician and researcher, said sea of popular diet media is the institution against which he rebels. It’s not that nutrition science is corrupt, just that the empty promises of memetic, of-the-moment diet crazes are themselves junk food. To Katz they are more than annoying and confusing; they are dangerous injustice.

Scientific publisher Annual Reviews asked Katz to compare the medical evidence for and against every mainstream diet. He says they came to him because of his penchant for dispassionate appraisals. “I don’t have a dog
